The European Commission launched "Open Research Europe" (ORE), an innovative open access publishing platform in the spring of 2021. Eurodoc, the European Council of Doctoral Candidates and Junior Researchers, as an expert partner in this project, helps steer ORE and ensure that the voice of early career researchers is heard during its operation and further development.

Council of the European Union in the Conclusions on research assessment and implementation of Open Science underlines the main goal of Open Science, which is increasing dissemination and impact of scientific research results to the general public. That might be effectively achieved by publishing research outputs written in simple, understandable particular national language. The necessity of having equal access to the new knowledge by different national business entities and enabling dissemination in the media multilingual is also one of the issues raised.

Hence, Eurodoc wants to inform EU policymakers and the ORE team about the experience and attitudes of the members of the international research community regarding multilingualism in the publishing of research.

The objective of this public survey, conducted by and under responsibility of Eurodoc, is to receive the views of researchers in Europe, especially those who are in early career stages, regarding their perception and experience with multilingual publishing of research. This is particularly relevant as ORE plans to add an option of adding abstracts in languages other than English to research papers published on the platform starting in 2024.

Let’s make an impact together!
