ADI is a non-profit, politically independent, association founded in 1998, aimed at the defence of PhD candidates and young researchers rights. Since its foundation, ADI is the only nationwide PhD candidates organization in Italy; it counts today 30 local sections, with additional ones due to open soon.
Recent ADI achievements include the increase of PhD fellowships amount, the partial inclusion of PhD candidates in pension plans, and the assessment of the degree as a qualification in public selections for school teachers. The objectives of current ADI campaigns are the promotion of a better positioning of PhD candidates in the job market outside academia, the adoption of a chart of PhD candidates rights and the improvement of the italian policies for higher education and research in general. ADI pursues its aims through both delegations in institutional bodies and direct negotiation with the government.
