#Ukraine: providing and receiving support

The European Council of Doctoral Candidates and Junior Researchers (Eurodoc) fully condemns the horrors of Russia’s war. As a grassroots federation of 29 national associations of early-career researchers (ECRs) from 26 countries across Europe, we express our solidarity with the people from Ukraine and call on all parties to ensure the protection of civilians. We fully condemn Russia’s and Belarus’ infringement on the basic human rights of the people in Ukraine as well as their own people.

As part of the international movement of doctoral candidates and junior researchers, we are particularly concerned for all students, doctoral candidates, and other researchers affiliated with academic institutions and other research facilities in Ukraine. Thus, we have been calling on all research institutions and universities to provide concrete help for researchers, students, and academic staff from Ukraine as well as to suspend all types of international scientific collaboration and cooperations with Russian institutions that are linked to military activity, have any direct benefit for the Putin regime, or openly condone military aggression.

We have created a special task force within Eurodoc that is dedicated to supporting our Ukrainian colleagues as best as we can. This effort is provided by volunteers from Eurodoc. We have been in contact with the Ukrainian Young Scientists Council (RMU), Science for Ukraine, and the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA) to coordinate our respective efforts. We try our best to not duplicate our efforts but rather to complement each other in our work.
