SiN (Stipendiatorganisasjonene i Norge) was founded in 2003, and is composed of local interest organisations for PhDs and post docs at Norwegian institutions. As the only national organisation of this type in Norway, representing more than 5,000 PhD candidates, both universities and university colleges are represented in its board. It is a politically independent organisation, often cooperating with the labour unions to promote the rights of the group it represents. Its main goals are to gather as many local associations under its umbrella, answer hearings from the ministry and assist local associations in their work.
