Promovendi Netwerk Nederland
The PhD candidates Network of the Netherlands (Promovendi Netwerk Nederland,PNN) was established in 1987 and was formerly known as Landelijk AIO Overleg (LAIOO). The new name, PhD candidates Network of the Netherlands, was adopted in 2003 after several changes in the Dutch academic system. Currently, 14 PhD organizations of Dutch Universities are member of the PhD candidates Network of the Netherlands. The board of the PhD candidates Network of the Netherlands consists of eight PhD candidates who represent approximately ten thousand Dutch PhD candidates on a national and international level. In addition, the PhD candidates Network of the Netherlands tries to improve the quality of Dutch PhD research, enhance the information supply for PhD candidates, and support local member organizations through lobbying, networking and organizing activities. In order to accomplish the objectives, the PhD candidates Network of the Netherlands regularly meets with policy makers from national organizations including the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OC&W), the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO), the Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU), various labor unions and political parties.
